Bornholm – The Island of Crafts
CRT assissted the Grønbechs Gård association in a project to further develop Grønbechs Gård as Bornholm's Center for Crafts.
In 2017, Bornholm became the first region in Europe and the first island in the world to be designated a World Craft Region. The title of World Craft Region is an international recognition of the unique craft environment found on Bornholm. The island's strong cohesion is reflected in its vibrant craft scene, museums, biennials, and international educational opportunities,which all positions Bornholm on the international craft stage. With a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship and well-preserved techniques, the island continues to represent innovative artisans working in ceramics, glass, textiles, metal, and wood. Bornholm is known for its many skilled artisans, who contribute to the narrative of an island where quality and aesthetics are paramount. The vision of Makers' Island Bornholm is for Bornholm to be a powerhouse for crafts in Europe and for crafts to be recognized for their value to Bornholm's society, culture, development, and economy. The overall purpose of the Craft Island project is to future-proof Bornholm's craft facilities for exhibition and communication, including Bornholm's Center for Crafts at Grønbechs Gård.
In this project, CRT maps stakeholder and actor needs surrounding Bornholm's Center for Crafts and contributing to the development of a plan for improvements and new facilities at Grønbechs Gård.
