The socio-economic value of culture and recreation in 6 Danish municipalities
Commissioned by Silverlining Research, CRT has calculated the socioeconomic value of the culture and recreation sector in 2022 for the municipalities of Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, Esbjerg and Randers. The calculation method was developed jointly by Silverlining Research and CRT during a pilot project for Aarhus Municipality and has since been applied to Denmark’s six largest cities as part of the so-called “6-city collaboration”. The socioeconomic value includes the direct, indirect, and induced effects succeeding from cultural and recreational economic activities in the six cities.
Silverlining Research led a detailed selection of relevant production units within culture, recreation, education, publishing, multimedia, and related sectors, primarily based on the most detailed level of the Danish industry classification system, based on NACE. Based on this selection, CRT calculated the socioeconomic value using its regional economic database and the SAM-K/LINE model. The results include figures for employment, gross value added, and tax revenues.
The full report was launched by Silverlining Research at the National Summit on Culture and Business, which brought together more than 300 representatives. CRT’s results formed a consistent theme throughout the summit’s panel discussions.
Kathrine L. Johansen remarked:
We are pleased to contribute to this important work with data thathighlights the value of culture and leisure — data that can support closercollaboration between cultural institutions, businesses, and municipalities.
