Business Analysis for Bornholm
Authors: Anders Hedetoft, Jesper Manniche, Carl Henrik Marcussen, and Lene Havtorn Larsen The purpose of this analysis is to uncover the general development of the Bornholm business community in recent years and to specifically examine the activities and resources of more successful companies regarding strategic development (innovation, skills development, capital acquisition), including the opportunities and challenges these companies have encountered. What role have the Bornholm Regional Municipality and the Bornholm Growth Forum played in the development of these companies? And what can be done in the future to create better frameworks so that existing and new Bornholm companies can grow and develop? A significant part of the analysis is targeted at successful Bornholm companies. One of the reasons for focusing on this group's choice of business strategies is to use these companies as inspiration for other businesses with growth ambitions. Furthermore, the analysis gives this group of successful companies the opportunity to voice any barriers they may experience regarding framework conditions. Methodologically, the analysis rests on four pillars:
- A statistically based analysis focusing on trends in employment and productivity.
- A survey-based analysis among a broad cross-section of Bornholm companies with at least two employees, aimed at mapping actual growth and growth ambitions.
- Qualitative interviews with a number of newly established business leaders who have achieved employment growth, with the aim of shedding light on their choice of business strategy as well as their experience of challenges and opportunities.
- Interviews with key stakeholders from the business promotion system to qualify the challenges and opportunities identified in this analysis. The analysis and recommendations have, to a certain extent, been made industry/sector-specific and targeted at the particular focus areas of the Bornholm business development strategy: the tourism and food sectors.
