Test Island Bornholm 2.0. Perspectives for Bornholm as a test and development environment for green energy and technology

This working paper is based on a published project report published in May 2023 by the authors with the title “Test Island Bornholm 2.0. Possible perspectives on the further development of Bornholm as a test and development environment for green energy and technology” (Manniche & Hansen, 2023). The paper provides insight into how Bornholm can promote business development and enhance its position as an internationally leading test environment - a test island - for green energy, technology and innovation in connection with the establishment of Bornholm as an offshore-based energy island (up to 3GW). Since Bornholm already has a history of being an environment for test and demonstration of energy technologies, which potentially can be scaled up when the energy island is fully developed and operational, the report discusses these development opportunities as ‘Test Island 2.0’, referring both to existing test island activities and potential new and larger-scale test and innovation activities made possible by the energy island development.
